Tony Abbott puts his foot in it again, on Australia Day (of all days!), which leads to the spoiling of the PM's party for some members of the emergency services. Did he do it on purpose? He must know that there are a few indigenous leaders out there who are over sensitive (rightly or wrongly depending on your view of history) to any comment, no matter how small. Find out at your nearest conspiracy blog. His handlers must be seething as not only has he offended Aboriginal people again, he also had to be bailed out by his opponent.
Edit: 18:45 27/01/2012
Well, there WAS a "conspiracy" of sorts, but not from where everyone, including me, expected. One of Gillard's own staffers had the loose lips and stirring spoon. Brilliant.

There was another, though minor, defining incident of Australian society yesterday, and that was Bernard Tomic vs The Gold Coast Police. The whole spat seems rather childish on both sides, and yet, no-one seems to be asking, WHY has Tomic got an exemption on his green P-plate? Of course the kid is going to break driving rules, because he has been given official sanction that the rules don't apply to him. With all the hysteria over hoons and bad driving, this doesn't set a very good example and yet again, demonstrates, on the day we are celebrating our society of equality, that for some, we are a long way from being equal, and the very same society we cherish, allows it.

In what turned out to be quite a day, our cricketers were at it again. They are having a great series against India, and it gets tainted with unnecessary sledging. Why can't they win gracefully?

Media adviser Tony Hodges was forced to stand aside after the "error of judgment", the Prime Minister's office confirmed tonight.
ReplyDeleteActivists from Canberra's tent embassy were furious with Mr Abbott after wrongly believing he had called for the protest camp to be disbanded.
Mr Abbott earlier declared he'd been "verballed", saying he had not said the tent embassy should be removed.
"I never said that and I don't think that," he said.
"I made the point that a lot has happened in 40 years and I think that we have moved on from the issues of 40 years ago which caused the Aboriginal tent embassy to be set up."
Ms Shaw, who told the protesters Mr Abbott wanted the tent embassy disbanded, said she heard of Mr Abbott's comments from "a fly on the wall".
Thanks for pasting this, but can you do me a favour next time and quote your source and/or provide a link to the full version, as the above looks like an edited version by you? Cheers.
DeleteFor those who don't know, 'Ms Shaw' is Barbara Shaw, an indigenous activist from NT, who received a call from an unknown woman. Cripes, what if it was the PM herself?! (I got this from Fairfax Media at http://www.smh.com.au/national/gillard-left-redfaced-after-abbott-leak-20120127-1qljq.html)
Ooops, that bit about the PM was just me being a little devil. It was not from Fairfax. Phew, gotta be careful these days.
DeleteNo it was not from fairfax ... it was from Tony Hodges (as I posted).
ReplyDeleteThis is such an incredible event.
One of the most serious breaches of Govt. Security has been initiated out of the PM's Office. Not only that, but the PM's Office has also tried to incite a racial divide in the Community.
So now we have it. This is the standard of Government we have and we are now all aware of their methods to retain Office.
Gillard's Office is discredited and shamed. It is not deserving of Prime Ministerial status.
Time to go Ju-liar, time to go.
It certainly is incredible. Abbott and his minders must be absolutely ecstatic, as this will now dominate the weekend's media. Oh, and the flag burning.
DeleteSo ... are you going to amend your cartoon circusmouse?
ReplyDeleteYou know, just to provide a little honesty to the "what's in your face" when you enter this blog site.
Maybe change big ears to Anthony Alba-nothingbetweentheears.
He probably used the same guy to write his Michael Douglas speech earlier this week ... hahaha!!
No, I don't think so. Abbott did make comment about something he should have stayed away from on Australia Day, and I've acknowledged that that comment was used by his opponents to manipulate and instigate an incident later on. You win some, you lose some. As for Albanese, his only crime is having idiots for staff. Have a good weekend.
DeleteThat's a shame Circusmouse - publishing a cartoon with a false message is just as bad as lying to the protesters that Abbot said "I want the tents moved".
ReplyDeleteTypical, despicable, desperate labour propaganda.
You too have a good weekend.
I see your cartoon is still portraying a falsehood.
ReplyDeleteWhy?
Even Julia has acknowledged the Tony was not to blame.
Why don't you update your cartoon?
Are you on her staff?
Mouse ... no need to apologise but ... you should do no less than amend.
Hope you're enjoying your weekend.
Any more for any more...
